Fevre Dream

I am a huge fan of the book series A Song of Ice and Fire, so when I found out that George RR Martin had written a book before it involving vampires I sought it out immediately. The novel follows  Captain Abner Marsh, who is down on his luck until he meets a wealthy gentleman named Joshua York who together commission the building of a grand steamboat, the Fevre Dream. The story takes some interesting liberties with the vampire mythos. They are not undead humans, or some form of infection, but instead their own race, seperate from humanity. But there are parts of the story where the vampires take a definite backseat, you find yourself lost in the river. All in all it was an extremely fun and fast read that I wholeheartedly recommend.
