MONSTER or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Judge A Book By Its Cover
So I definitely judged this book by its cover before buying it because look at that cover! ------------------------>It looks pretty cool and you should call that number. I'll wait.
Pretty cool, yes?
Anyway, the bright yellow cover with the cool skull logo really caught my attention in a book store one day so I copied down the name of the book and author so I could get it for my Kindle later.
So this book follows two people; Monster, a man whose skin changes color every morning giving him a different power every morning, who hunts mythological beasties by night and lives with his girlfriend who is literally a demon from Hell; and Judy who works at a grocery store and doesn't know anything about magic. I liked both of these characters and how even after they go through a whole ordeal together they still can't get along.
This was a fun quick read. If you see it in the store (and it isn't hard to miss) give the first chapter a quick read and you'll see what I mean. It starts with Judy calling Animal Control because some Yeti have started eating all the ice cream in the frozen food section of the grocery store she works in. Monster shows up with blue skin and a baseball bat covered in runes which he intends to use on the heads of the Yeti.
If that doesn't interest you then you sir just don't understand good literature when it hits you in the face with a rune covered baseball bat.
I would give Monster by A. Lee Martinez four stars out of five and I'll be reading more by him in the future.
